The Kingdom of Cambodia which
is known locally as Preahreacheanacha Kampuchea
has started to re-emerge from decades of war
and isolation as a place to visit and is now
back on the Asian travel map.
Cambodia
is located in South-eastern Asia, bordering the
Gulf of Thailand, and flanked by Thailand, Vietnam,
and Laos. The country has been under occupation
by the French, Japanese and Vietnam but now has
it’s own coalition
government. In spite of this occupation 90% of
Cambodians consider themselves to be Khmers,
whose Angkor Empire reached over Southeast Asia
that reached its strongest in the 10th and 13th
centuries.

Cambodia is a land of paddies
and forests and running straight through Cambodia
is the Mekong River and Tonle Sap. Cambodia is
a tropical country and is the rainy, monsoon
season between May to November; and dry between
December to April there is little seasonal temperature
variation
One astounding fact about Cambodia
is that from a population of 14 million more
than 50% of the population is 20 years or younger.
There are some fantastic places
to visit:
Ratanakiri
a lightly populated province, that is renowned
for it’s impressive
ranges of hills and mountains, there’s
also a level plateau, watershed lowlands, crater
lakes, rivers and waterfalls and dense impenetrable
forest in the northern reaches, and drier, sparser
forest, found in the southwest.

Prast
Preah Vihear is an Angkorian Temple situated
on a 1500ft ridge in the Dângrêk
Mountains in Cambodia, just on the border from
Thailand. The history of the temple/fortress
is uncertain, but we know that the temple is
dedicated to the god Shiva and thought to of
been built around 1002-50,
Sihanoukville has three beaches
that ring the headland, which can be used for
bathing, snorkelling and diving. Angkor Wat is a temple that was
built for king Suryavarman II in the early 12th
century to be used as his state temple and capital
city; this temple has become a symbol for Cambodia
being used on their national flag.
